the great licensing raceWritten: 10/08/05 As you may have heard in the news all pubs, clubs and other establishments which sell alcohol are having to apply for new licences. This also covers the public entertainment aspects. Your parish council is no longer a statutory consultee so in future we will have to rely on someone noticing when a premises puts a notice up in their window. In addition, unlike a planning application, the district council isn't "carding" affected households so Hazel Smith, one of our parish councillors, has been chasing around to see who is applying for what and we now have the full list online on the village web site here. To my mind the most "interesting" part isn't the extension in opening hours but the public entertainment licences being applied for by some premises. Perhaps the best one is the possibility of live music in the car park of the Lion and Lamb until 1am. Yes, really. If you think this is something that may affect you and you want to comment then SCDC have a document (not online on their web site apparently) with guidance for "interested parties" - that's you that is. I've put it online here in PDF (Adobe/PDF, 67KB) and Word (MS/Word, 77KB) format. If there are no objections from villagers then applications are likely to go through so if you do have a problem with any of the applications be sure you comment in good time.
Update: 28/10/05 I was reminded by an email today that I never followed this one up here. I actually attended all three hearings on these applications to present the parish council case and the final results are online here on the village web site. If you work back from there by clicking on the "Older ->" links you can find a report of each hearing.
