How about because chicanes are a dangerous hazard to cyclists. I avoid
roads with chicanes as I'm fed up of nearly becoming a car/bike/bollard
sandwich as some prat tries to scream past me before the chicane.
And in terms of greening, how about just cycling the distances that aren't
so far that you have to go out of the 30mph zone? That will mean you
don't have nearly so many problems with inefficient car performance over
speed humps.
