That's good news in my opinion - if the owners/developers become less
hopeful of ever blighting the spot with a dormitory 'hotel', and lose hope
of a financial 'windfall', then the more chance of the field becoming
something more compatible with greenbelt e.g. continuation of grazing,
allotments, playing fields (probably not all those _are_ by default
permitted in green-belt).

Couldn't disagree more. What possible benefit would a dormitory bring to
shops and pubs? And fields aren't 'useless'. Even if they are flooded
sometimes, which in this case is probably due to compaction of the ground by
previous ill-advised use of the site (for storing road-building materials),
then at least the flood-water is just in a field - where would the water be
instead if we concrete over every bit of ground...?
