Thanks to those who reported (helpfully) that their BT lines were fine.
Just thought I'd let you know:
Monday 21 - BT engineer booked to attend 8-1 but was unable to do so.
Re-booked appointment for Wed 23rd.
Wed 23 - BT engineer attended promptly at 8am. Reason for missed appointment
on Monday? Call out to Swaffham Prior Fen in deep snow was tricky - hard to
find cables and boxes in the snow and despite his caution, his van slithered
off the road. Helpful passing Environment Agency van towed him back on to
the road to continue his journey - but he was late, so could not make it to
my appointment.
So what was the BT line problem? Yes - it was a local fault. It was in my
house. A faulty internal extension was causing the noisy line. Now renewed
with fresh cable. Incidentally - the so-called "ancient underground cable
that runs all the way to the Waterbeach exchange" is obviously doing a
pretty god job as my landline is as clear as a bell and Broadband is fine
now.

No problems at the Rectory. No cable either ;-)
