Battleship Bob is doing a very fine job indeed! He's allowing the family
to have an undisturbed morning of doing whatever swans do. He then has a
fine "compound" near where his boat is normally moored and the family will
be encouraged to spend time there during the danger period (given that
boats often crash into other boats or the bank, sometimes with human
injuries, racing isn't the safest thing for swans). They looked as if
they were practicing last night and looked very happy indeed.
My sources tell me this was the agreed solution at a meeting with the
rowers - the swans have exclusive use of the river in the morning during
Bumps, and then are installed in safer pleasant accomodation so the rowers
can have exclusive use during the actual races. Sadly it looks as if some
of the eggs didn't hatch - I thought I could only see three cygnets.
