I've not seen the letter but Jim read a bit of it out to me and I think
it's down to lots of new houses being built hereabouts. I imagine the
Arbury Park development is in CB4 and I think Longstowe would be too as
Longstanton is.
This is the second time I've been through this. Last time the reason was
far more spurious. Where I used to live changed postcode so it could
move from being Yateley, Camberley, Surrey to Yateley, Hants. Apparently
this was because people wanted to be seen as living in Hampshire (where
Yateley really is) not Surrey (where Camberley is). Who these people
where, why it was necessary or required a change of postcode to achieve

As for transition it's not just stationery. Like you I print mine off as
necessary on a colour laser printer (although most of the time I just
email people a PDF and get them to print it off ;-)) but it's also
things like buying things on the Web. A lot of the time they want a
valid postcode ...
