I've just got back from that meeting where I watched from the cheap
seats. This was an SCDC cabinet meeting, where eight senior councillors
decide most of the key issues these days. I'll probably write a fuller
report later as I was taking notes.
Milton PC had agreed at our meeting on Monday to write to all cabinet
members expressing our unhappiness about the car parking proposal, the
loss of work experience opportunities for Cambridge Mencap, and the
failure of SCDC to carry out its original plan of trying to outsource
management of the park and they all had copies.
In essence after a lot of speeches in opposition from cabinet members
and other councillors, mainly about the cafe proposal rather than the
car parking it must be said, the decision was deferred at Cllr Roberts
request (as she could see the way the wind was blowing) with an
amendment from our Cllr Summerfield that officers should complete the
exercise of going out to tender for external management of the park.
Cllr Roberts was not please with this turn of events as her comments to
me afterwards made clear ...
