Yup, that's certainly possible now: you can restrict access to the
mailman archive to list members. It wasn't when I started out though as
I've got no control over whether Google indexes The Mail Archive.
But I've yet to hear any coherent argument for why Google shouldn't
index the archives. The OP, Sarah, was concerned about spam at work but
the archives both make it hard for spammers to pick up email addresses.
Perhaps someone who uses an email address which is *only* used for this
list, bernie for example, could tell us if he gets any spam to the email
address he uses here?
