how to avoid Tesco's pharmacy

Written: 02/02/07

After my last post I decided enough was enough with Tesco's pharmacy. Over the last few years with my "interesting" drug regime I've had more grief from them than I need. Every visit is stressful. But there is a solution and I've finally got off my backside and done it.

This only makes sense if you're on long term medication like me. The deal if you live in Milton and you use Tesco's pharmacy is as follows:

  1. The doctor gives you a form which you use when you need a repeat of your prescription so you tick the boxes and take it to the surgery and leave it in the box on the counter.

  2. The surgery write a prescription and Tesco collect it.

  3. About two days after you put the form into the surgery you go to Tesco and collect your drugs. If you're lucky they'll actually have the drugs ready for you and there will be a pharmacist present so they can give them to you. Or there may not be.

So that's two trips you have to make, and a sporting chance that the second one will be stressful or even involve another trip as my last one did.

Now Waterbeach pharmacy will also handle Milton surgery prescriptions. Here's how it works with them. You visit them once and give them your repeat form. Then when you want a refill you do the following:

  1. You phone the pharmacy (01223 564422) and tell them what you want.

  2. They tick the boxes for you and take it to the surgery.

  3. The surgery write a prescription and Waterbeach pharmacy collect it.

  4. They deliver the drugs to your house!!!

  5. They hold on to your repeat form so they're ready for the next round.

So no visit to the pharmacy and no visit to the surgery, just one phone call. They deliver between 2pm and 6pm. If you have to pay you pay at the door but most long term drugs users either have a prepay card or get free prescriptions. If so they can post the drugs through your letterbox if that suits you.

And all this for no additional cost.

Now I know about this I'm amazed any long term drug user bothers with Tesco. I went to Waterbeach today and handed over my form (they're at the southern end of the village green) so I'm now ready to go next time I need a refill.
