it gets dirty

Written: 07/06/04

"QUESTION: How "Independent" is your Independent candidate? His posters are on the same poles as the Lib Dems! Don't be fooled."

... it says in the latest Conservative leaflet (if you've seen it, delivery has been rather patchy, as ever, someone just emailed me a copy). For the record I think it's currently just one pole of the many Hazel's managed to get people to put up for her (she's keen, I wish we could get as many up for Richard).

It's the one near Casa Rosa florists which has both posters on, and it happens that the person living there intends to vote for Richard and Hazel, so that person has put up both posters on the same pole.

What does that prove I wonder, other than she's got a lot of sense given the choices available to her?

If it was as the Tories are hinting then surely every board would carry both posters?

Oh well, if they're going to play dirty then I won't feel guilty about giving some back so here goes ...

I see that in the same leaflet they've finally woken up and noticed the Northern Fringe. Many of us have known about it for somewhat longer of course. If you subscribe to the milton-news mailing list you read about it some time ago (30th April). Similarly if you read the web site news where much the same article appeared on the same day. And there's been a page on the web site about it for several years, since November 2000 in fact. Despite the claim in their leaflet that SCDC "knows nothing about this proposal" I was going to meetings with SCDC planning officers about this some years ago, as was Richard Summerfield, our current district councillor and there have been many meetings since then. Indeed there's been a page about it on his new web site (including a rather good map) for months now and he mentioned it in his April newsletter which you'd have thought one of them might have read!

And while I'm in rant mode I see they're also going on in their leaflet (quite rightly) about the state of the high street and they've got Shona Johnstone out to look at it. It's just a shame that the Conservative controlled County Council, where Shona is the highways portfolio holder, keep refusing to fund the re-surfacing of it isn't it?
