Hmmm - it's not just the lack of electricity, or even the fact that
the light doesn't flash. The other day I came very close to running
someone down on the crossing - it was a very sunny day (like today)
and she was standing in the shadow of the tree on the CEN side, and I
was travelling towards Cambridge (within the speed limit). I just
didn't see her until I was nearly up to the crossing, by which time
it was too late to brake safely. Fortunately, she didn't start
across. (If the lady in question is on this mailing list - my sincere
apologies for the fright I must have given you.) It is possible that
I may not have been paying as much attention as I should, but I
really don't think that was the case. In contrast to the rest of the
road scene, anyone waiting on that side is in very significant
shadow. Perhaps more should have been/should be trimmed from the
overhanging tree?
I feel better for getting that off my chest, but if it happened to
me, and I consider myself to be a fairly safe driver, what if someone
had been coming along at the kind of speed we so often, sadly, see
through there, and the lady had stepped out, expecting the vehicle to
stop?
