Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue (CamSAR) will be back this weekend with the annual Santa Parade,
spreading the festive cheer to the kids (and kids-at-heart) of Milton.
Saturday 3rd Dec: South of Butt Lane 4:30pm-8:00pm
Sunday 4th Dec: North of Butt Lane 4:30pm-7:30pm
Every year Santa Claus graces the county’s rescue team with a couple of days of his time, so that he can give Milton a preview show ahead of his exhausting World Tour on Christmas Eve. With a four-wheel-drive filling in for his usual reindeer in front of the sleigh, Santa hopes to greet every child in town with a personal Merry Christmas… and maybe a photo and a lollipop. Keep a lookout!
In past years the people of Milton have been generous supporters of CamSAR, donating over £1,100 during Santa’s last appearance. With no government funding, restrictions on publicity due to the vulnerability of the people it helps, and no paid staff but substantial equipment and running costs, this is a hugely meaningful sum for the team and its ability to keep working.
Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue is the county’s Lowland Rescue team, and is called by police to search for high-risk missing people. These can be children, the elderly, or people suffering severe depression or other mental illnesses, as well as other situations where life could be at risk. No team member is paid, but all give their free time to continuous training and are professionally qualified to
national standards. CamSAR relies on team members’ fundraising and donations from individuals and local businesses to meet its yearly £20-25k costs.
