Fireworks

Bonfire night is on a Monday this year so local firework displays are all over the place. The big one in the village, run by the Milton School Association on their playing field, takes place on Friday night. That’s all the details I have on that I’m afraid as MSA don’t send me their news.

Histon and Impington have theirs on Saturday night on the playing fields at
Impington Village College. It’s run jointly by the Histon and Impington Infant School Association, the Histon Junior School PTA, and the Friends of Impington Village College. Gates open at 6pm with Fireworks at 7pm. David Robinson, village butcher, will be running a barbecue and hog roast, and hot drinks will be available too.

What is generally the biggest of the lot, the city display, isn’t until Monday night and is held on Midsummer Common. Unlike the other two it’s free. If you’ve not been before be warned that you shouldn’t even think about driving in – the city gets completely gridlocked and I suspect many end up watching the display from their car.

So you’re best to either cycle or take the bus. Park & Ride buses will be running and up to three children go free with each fare paying passenger. Buses will operate every 10 minutes to and from all Park and Ride sites prior to the firework display. Passengers are recommended to leave the sites no later than 6:45pm to ensure arrival at Midsummer Common before the display starts. Following the fireworks display buses will depart from the Four Lamps roundabout until 9:30pm. Cowley Road passengers will also be able to catch their return bus from Maids Causeway (eastbound side heading towards Newmarket Road).
