A statement from Milton Primary School

A statement from the Governors of Milton Primary School.

Dear Residents,

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that as a direct result of advice given to us by the road safety team at Cambridgeshire Country Council and the numerous concerns raised from parents, staff and residents about child safety, pollution and ongoing parking issues, Milton CofE Primary School has taken the decision to reduce all unauthorised vehicle access onto school grounds, during school hours.

From Monday 29 October, the Turning Circle at the end of Humphries Way will be permanently closed and an electronic barrier will replace the existing gate.

Only Staff vehicles, blue badge holders and taxis will be permitted to enter and use the designated parking spaces within the school grounds.

Why have we taken this decision?

  • The safety of all our children is our utmost priority, and we believe that by reducing the volume of traffic on school grounds we can reduce the risks vehicles pose to our children.
  • To reduce pollution near our school and move towards a safer, cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.
  • To encourage alternative ways to travel to school e.g. cycling, walking, car sharing or scooting to school.
  • Improve fitness for our children by being more active.

We understand that this decision may potentially impact on the traffic and parking issues many of you have kindly raised with the school over the years and we want to reassure you that we are working to mitigate these issues.

With this in mind our Travel Working Committee and School Council are implementing an initiative called Take5, which provides tried and tested ways to reduce traffic, pollution and parking issues near schools.

Thank you for your cooperation in making Milton C of E school a safer environment for our children.

A reminder: The Lion and Lamb and White Horse pubs have kindly offered their car parks for use by parents at school pick up and drop off times.
