NHS Out of Hours Service Consultation

Our local NHS trust, NHS Cambridgeshire, is currently undertaking a consultation on how people would like out of hours GP services to be provided.

NHS Cambridgeshire is responsible for commissioning emergency GP services to cover the times when normal GP practices are closed. NHS Cambridgeshire is also responsible for setting the standards and establishing agreed service levels in order to deliver high quality care for people in Cambridgeshire.

The current service is delivered locally by CAMDOC who are based in Union Lane in Chesterton.

Dr Hunt, one of the GPs at Milton Surgery, is a great supporter of CAMDOC. He writes:

As a local GP for 16 years I have been very pleased with the care my patients have received from Camdoc. I believe this is an important part of GP work and I have been working regular sessions at Camdoc since 1996. Emergency GP care is a complex field of medicine and I am happy that we are looked after by experienced local GP’s.

For me, Camdoc satisfies the “Granny Test” i.e. Would you be happy for your Granny/Child/Spouse to be looked after by this service – from personal experience the answer is “Yes”.

There is a risk that short term savings may be put ahead of the long term benefits of the service and this is an opportunity for people who have benefited from the experienced care given by Camdoc to safeguard its future.

People can give their views in a number of different ways, the simplest of which
is to fill in an online questionnaire but you can also email OOH-consultation@cambridgeshire.nhs.uk or write to them. See their web site for more details.
